I have a question about extending over and over again at the same facility. I understand that after a year as a traveler, you start getting taxed. I believe the hospital I am working at now allows one to be a traveler for up to 2 years. After that, if I went away and took another contract somewhere else then came back to that original facility, would the time counter start over? If so, would I be eligible again for all the traveler goods like housing stipend, etc?

The safest is no more than 12 months in any 24 month period. Agencies may have a different criteria to reset their clock, but you won't be able to use that as an excuse if you get audited. You will also have some issues in your work state as they will consider you as their resident, not your home state. You will be required to change your car title and tags and your driver's license. If you have a compact license, you may be considered as working without a license.

By the way, it is not just the actual working over 12 months that counts. It is when you agreed to work over 12 months, which could have been many months before. It is when you had the intent of working over 12 months, not if you actually go through with it. For example, if you accept a new permanent job in another state, and now change your mind after working for 2 weeks and go back to your previous home, you cannot now say it was a temp job and deduct expenses for that two week job - you had the intent of working there permanently.
