math tests

I am in a 2 year program and each semester we have 2 tries to pass a dosage calculation test. More than 2X and you are out of the program on your second try. Doesn't that sound very irrational since some students are pulling a 3.5 or higher GPA? I feel with today's shortage, the program should work with the student until they can manage the exam. I AM NOT SAYING THAT WE SHOULD LOWER OUR STANDARDS! Any feedback? I know how important Math is especially with all of the medication errors. Bottom line, you have to pass the NCLEX.

The program I was in also had the two tries or you're out for the math test. I looked at it this way: when you are in the real world, you only get one try to get the med right. In school, if you mess up the first time, then you have time to work your butt off to figure out what you were doing wrong and learn how to do it right for the second test. It's tough, but you can't just trudge on forever trying to make someone learn to do the math. How many people wouldn't even try to learn the material thr first couple of tests because they knew they could have as long as they wanted to get it right?

I am agree with you... Just study harder... By having committed students means committed proffesionals in the field. ... Saving a patients live it just take one mistake... so the standard are set as they should....
