Hello all:
I'm starting my maternity rotation next week and was wondering if anyone had a standard care plan for mothers who have had a lady partsl birth and one for mothers who have had a c-section? It would be a huge help.. My instructor said that is pretty much what we will be doing for the 5 weeks.. Any help is great
Thanks
Terry.

hi, terry. i haven't seen anything like that on the internet. you might do a search of allnurses for care plan threads. when i search for threads where students are asking for care plan help i use these search words "diagnosis" [because they are usually looking for nursing diagnoses], "careplan", "plan" [but mostly a lot of other stuff comes up]. i would also try "c-section", and "delivery". the nursing student assistance forum, general nursing student discussion forum and perhaps the ob-gyn nursing forum would be the places to look although i've learned that members are liable to post questions in just about any forum. you can search exclusively within one forum or you can search within all of the allnurses forums. there have been a few questions by students regarding maternity care plans but they have been on specific issues. there are a couple of nursing diagnoses that pertain to maternity, i'm thinking, in particular, about the breastfeeding diagnoses.
all care plans are based upon the symptoms a patient has anyway. with their symptoms you look for nursing diagnoses that have those same symptoms. and, from there your care plan proceeds. there is information on writing care plans on these two threads of allnurses:
i check the forums daily for questions about care plans and usually answer them first.
thanks for the info! i would have thought there would be a standardized care plan for mothers who have given birth by lady parts and for mothers who has given birth via c-section... for example, checking fundus and flow and expected outcomes and signs of hemorrage and oxytocin given.. etc.. etc.. and care for episotomies... other things. since pregnancy is a normal thing... and 9/10 you are doing the same thing for a post-partum mother, you would think there would be a standard care plan made up..
thanks
terry.

Maybe in a careplan book, but not on the Internet.
Ahh.. Yeah, can you recommend a good care plan book, because the 20 or 30 dollars for the book would be well worth it in time saved
maternal/newborn plans of care: guidelines for individual care, 3rd edition, by marilynn e. doenges and mary frances moorhouse. runs $46.95 here in the u.s.
