Masters Program

I applied to the FNP program and was not accepted. I have tried numerous times to contact graduate admissions to find out why I was rejected. I do know they have been accepting people as they get applicants. So, first come first served. I'm actually glad I'm not considering them anymore. I have not been impressed with the process. There are other more established programs out there. Good luck. I'm waiting to hear about grad school and am hoping for the best. Can't wait to finish up the BSN.

I spoke with someone from OU last week as I am planning on applying with a start of next summer or fall and they said to contact them after I have completed the BSN. She said you must have completed your BSN prior to applying for admission. I keep checking in to see if anyone actually in the program has any other insight as well and have not found much...

Well that's interesting. I was told apply and you can be accepted contingent upon completion of the BSN. I was encouraged, called, emailed, you name it. Then denied without any follow up. I had a stellar GPA, already an OU student (which I was told was a plus), great references and 13 yrs experience. Oh well, I'm glad it turned out as it did. They probably make a lot of money on application fees, lol...

I guess I shouldnt put the cart in front of the horse as they say. I guess I will concentrate on finishing this BSN program and see how I feel then. Thanks for replying. I am still on the fence about returning so soon. Good luck to you both.

I also am finishing up my BSN at OU. I'm done with all of the nursing courses, but have one elective this fall. I have my MSN application nearly completed, and the enrollment advisor called to see how I was doing. She had previously told me that as long as I was an OU BSN student, I could apply to the MSN program before finishing my BSN, as long as I would have my BSN before the start of my MSN. When she called this time, I wanted to confirm this information. She then told me she didn't know if they would accept me, since the application deadline is December 1, and I won't have my BSN until after the deadline. I KNOW this is not what she told me previously. I was really looking forward to this program, but I now feel that it needs some work. I really wanted to start my MSN in the spring, so I am now looking at other options. Good luck in whichever course you choose! Anyone know of any other online MSN (FNP) programs that are more established?

There are lots! Frontier Nursing University, St. Louis University, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, SUNY, etc. I was irked by the change in information I received after shelling out the application fee. Movin' on after the BSN. Good luck!

I inquired about the MSN program and received an email stating that due to changes in the requirements for Ohio, that only Ohio residents of Ohio can receive their Master's degree from an online program. I have not researched this at all to know the validity of it, however, I have heard horrible things about their MSN programs so I will be going else where for my MSN. I, too will be finishing up my BSN this Fall and was planning on starting my MSN in the Spring...Walden University was highly recommended to me by my neighbor who received her MSN from there and is now working on her DNP there. I am considering all options but price is a big factor for me.

Price is a consideration but you have to look at the whole picture as well. I believe Walden is pretty pricey. SLU isn't cheap, but it holds a lot of appeal for my circumstances. Deadlines for many schools have passed for spring admissions. You might want to check on this lickety-split! Another great school is Drexel. I was accepted there but they require 5 campus visits and that's a tough one for me. Good luck and let me know what you decided. OU's program is too new and well, that's all I'd better say, lol!
