Maricopa nursing program

Thanks for the reply. In your blocks do most people do well on the hesi? From my understanding you need to do well on the final and the hesi to go onto the next block. Can you tell me how many days a week classes are for the program? You told me the hours, but wondering how many times a week.How many subjects are there per block? What was block one for example . Don't mean to bother, but I'm really curious to find out. I'm just nervous and scared because of all the horrible things I hear about nursing school, the drop out rate and difficulty. Thanks it's nice to get feedback from someone going through it. Feel free to share anything else like tips or prep things to know etc whatever all ears!

I graduated from the GCC weekend program and loved it. They have some pretty amazing instructors there. Good luck with where ever you end up. I did t know you're allowed to switch programs in between blocks.

We all have a very similar nursing program with similar requirements. Transferring between the colleges is pretty seamless as well. We suggest you start by reaching out to your current nursing advisor at Scottsdale to get advice about completing your block successfully. Then, also reach out to --------------, the nursing advisor here at Glendale who can answer your questions about how you may go about transferring to save yourself drive-time. In my classes it is a prety good split of passes and fails. But again, it is only a small part of your grade. In block 1 at scc, the HESI is 30 of 600 points. And block 2 it is the same. Then for block 3 it is 15 of 300 points. Enough to give you a small boost or small drop, but enough to throw your grade completely off. The final is more important as it is between 90-120 points depending on the semester. In block one, you have 2 classes a week and one clinical. Then there are Sim lab days and checkoff mixed in every couple weeks for an additional class day. And tests are usually taken on a different day then class day. Block 2 is 2 class days, with a clinical every other week, and again sim lab every few weeks. But tests are on class days. I think. lol. And in block 3 you have one class day and 3 different clinical roations so its hard to say if it will be weekly or biweekly because it depends on where you are placed. When you enroll, it will be just one class split into lecture and lab. That one main class incorporates all the subjects. You get pharm mixed in with body systems and assessments.

The first semester is a fundamental class about assessment, basics of common disease processes and ailments you will see in practice, and pharm for some of the most common drugs seen. You will learn assessments, PO and injectable meds, foleys, and sterile wound care.

Then block 2 is med/surg 1 that delves into the body systems and how different pathologies and injuries effect each system. There is also pharm included with the various meds used for each systems common pathologies. You will learn IV insertion, fluids and piggy back IV solutions, CBI, trach suctioning, chest tube care, and phlebotomy.

In block 3, you get OB, Peds, and med/surg 2. In med/surg 2, you delve into more critical conditions of patients. There are no checks offs, but you learn central line care and central line blood draws and med admin. You also get to IV push in block 3.

Block 4 is critical care and psych. But I dont know any more than that since I am still in block 3.

Hi mrsboots87, I made it to block 3! Any suggestions or tips you have for block 3? Anything I can/should do over summer to help with the next block? I hope the rest of your semester went well!
