Malpractice Insurance?

I know malpractice insurance can be an addendum to your homeowner's policy.

Do nursing assistants need malpractice insurance "just in case". Afterall, anyone can sue anyone for any reason.

If you were assisting a patient that fell, could a nursing assistant be sued?

If you work for an institution, you SHOULD be covered. You have to verify this with your employer. It's home health people that have the greatest concern. A lot of people do this part time with no benes or even full time with no benes, and they need to be covered.

Our CNA instructor talked about this at length. We have a litigious society and the daily, court TV shows, are full of people who were friends, and family, being sued.

So, depends on your personal situation....

I believe NSO (Nurses Service Organization) offers professional liability coverage for nursing assistants, aides, and techs for a $29 yearly premium. The $29 premium is cheaper than the the first hour spent with any malpractice attorney.
