Hello all, I start my hybrid FNP at a state university this week. The program is 99% online with class meeting scheduled for test and even those you can have proctored at approved sites if you live far away. We had a mandatory immersion week last week where they outlined the whole program (very overwhelming). There are two cohorts a full time (2 year) and a part time (3 year) but we're all starting this summer. I was very surprised to learn most of the people in the cohorts do not have a ton of experience, most stated they had 2 to 3 years experience with the majority of the class having 1 to 5 years. There were some people with 10 years and more but I was quite surprised and relieved at the numbers. I have exactly one year of experience and one of my BSN cohort classmates is also doing full time wth me which makes me feel good to have someone I know there. I don't know if it was the 2015 scare, but it doesn't seem people want to stay doing bedside nursing anymore. From what I've heard from older coworkers bedside nursing is not wht it used to be. For those who've gotten to meet your classmates whats the average length of experience for them before pursuing their NP

In my cohort, there were approxiamately 88 of us in the beginning of the program and more than 75% had more than 5 years experience as a RN. Although the school did except nurses with one year of experience but they were previous alumni of the school just completing their BSN. Don't let that deter you though in your studies! Just grab what you can from the bedside and run!! Congrats on pursuing your APN degree!:yelclap:

I haven't had the chance to meet everyone in my cohort as I'm taking an optional summer course prior to starting this fall, but the experience ranges from 33 years as an RN to a classmate with no experience (straight out of her BSN program). Probably over half the class had at least 1-5 years experience.
I'm the same as you with just about a year of experience at the bedside and was worried I'd be the most inexperienced!
Congrats on starting the program! :)
Thanks and congrats to you all as well!!!!
