HelloAll,
Just curious to know if anyone has gone through Distance Learning Systems orRUE education for their online LVN to RN transition. Is it accredited by theTexas BON? And is it a legitimate program? It just sounds too good to be true, and I am scared to jump the gun on it. I called the BON, but I have been unableto speak to anyone in regards to this to get a clear answer.
Any input or help would be much appreciated.

Your best option is to research more in to. I attempted to do "The College Network" program and it did not work for me at. It was horrifying, but I have also read several people have succeeded with distance learning. If you are really interested in the LPN-RN bridge online, you really should check out http://www.excelsior.edu/. No matter what online "program" you choose, the way I understand is it you will be doing your clinical check-offs with this school. So my advice is to call/talk to these school for more information.
ALSO: When checking out any College or University, it is also important to see if they are accredited. You can find this information by going to http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ and search the school you are looking for. This will tell you if the College is accredited by the US Department of Education.
Excelsior mentions in there ASN-RN program that this:
The associate, bachelor's, and master's degree programs in nursing at Excelsior College are accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, telephone: 404-975-5000. The ACEN is a specialized accrediting agency for nursing recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Here is a listing of all of the approved RN programs in Texas. (http://www.bon.texas.gov/nursingeducation/edudocs/rnschools.pdf ) The BON site also states "The Texas BON does recognize graduates from pre-licensure nursing educational programs that are approved/accredited by other State Boards of Nursing as eligible to apply to take the NCLEX examination(s) and apply for licensure in Texas."
The program MUST be approved by the TX BON in order to take NCLEX in Tx. If you need information about a specific program, contact the BON. You do not want to invest time, effort and money only to discover that you're ineligible to take NCLEX.

I believe Rue is just a publishing company like The College Network. There are only a handful of approved online bridge programs in TX.
The ones I know of are
* Hutchinson Community College - it's in Kansas & you have to go there for clinicals for a week.
* Western Governer's Univerity - it's a BSN program & you have to be in the area (Houston or Dallas), at least last I heard. They wouldn't accept anyone into the program who doesn't live w/in an hour or so.
* Excelsior College - They have classes or you just take the tests. At the end of the program there is a weekend long check off/capstone.
* Indiana State University - You have to find a facility to do your clinicals at.
* Allegheny - I can't remember where it's based out of but you also have to secure your own clinical location. Which can be tough with all the nursing programs.
* Texas A&M University Corpus Christi - The classes are online but I don't know how clinicals works.
I don't know much about ISU & Allegheny. I've looked into ISU & because they want you to go through TCN, I dropped the idea. I don't know anyone who went through Allegheny. Looked into it but since there is no one to give me their opinion, I skipped it. There might be more, but those are the ones I know of.

Rue (nor distance learning system) is neither a program nor a school they are a publishing company that creates study guides similar to the college network. They have no ability to grant admission to any school, guarantee acceptance or graduation nor can they grant any degree or diploma that will give you eligibility to sit for the NCLEX
