Hello my fellow ER nurses!
I work in a level 2 ER in Chicago, lately I have seen more LVAD pts coming in but we don't take care of LVAD pts and I have not had any teaching on them. Does anyone know who offers LVAD classes in Chicago for nurses?
Thank you for your help :)

These aren't in person, but you can check out Thoratec eUniversity. They are the makers of the HeartMate LVAD.

Not sure if they're open to the general public or only hospitals doing VADs, but it's worth a shot.

Every LVAD pt has a phone number to call on them and on their battery. As soon as they are triaged, call the number or have the provider call it ASAP.

Hi Connie,
What hospital are you at? I work for HeartWare in Chicago and we do train some EDs that need basic VAD training.

If you take care of them, I'd contact your VAD/transplant coordinator and ask for education. If you do not implant them at your hospital, I'd contact Thoratec or Heartware and ask if a local rep can give you a lecture or some paperwork.
