LTC RN Experience

Hi fellow friends,

I'm currently in a Long Term Care Rehabilitation Home . Will my LTC experience as a Supervisor nurse be accepted in a ACUTE Hospital Setting? Can i be considered for positions? Because everytime i read Job POSTS for Hospital Positions more often then not there are requirements " 1 Year Acute Care Experience"....

anybody in my shoes? Is it going to be hard for me to enter any Med/surg or Transitional Units in an Acute setting??

please anyone help....i hope im in a good career path. My ultimate dream will be a telemetry unit.

You need to post this in another forum as this one is for LTC.

probably not but you never know. LTC is not acute care.

As to being hard, that is up to you and your attitude. If you want acute care- what are you doing in LTC??

Truth is I think you can be a good nurse anywhere and a patient is a patient, but it sounds to me like you are itching to go to acute care.

All the best and good luck with all your career pursuits!

I worked 10 yrs. in a nursing home and decided I wanted a change. I kept hearing that being a LTC nurse had held me back, made me undesireable. I landed a job at a small hospital and I can tell you, aside from starting IV's and pushing certain IV meds, there was nothing I was unfamiliar with and my LTC experience I was right at home on the med surg unit.
