LS1 prep Saunders

I was just wondering if there is anyone who used the Saunders NCLEX comprehensive review book as the primary resource for preparing for LS1? I am very interested in using that as my primary and then using the recommended books to read and reinforce my notes...

As I went back and reviewed the notes on my LS3 failure I noticed I put way to much information in my notes causing me to miss studying the important facts. As I have come into the end of my studying for LS2 I am going back through my notes from LS2 using the Saunders to weed out the extra info. /end procrastination babbling

I did. I had a really good understanding of the material in LS1 cardiac/respiratory wise before I tested, so it was pretty much review. The only thing I really used the textbook for was to study the oncology section more closely, but to be honest most everything on my exam on the abnormal cell section could also be found in my Saunders... actually one of my questions was identical to one in my Saunders book in that chapter.

I did as well. I only used the EC content guide and the Saunders Review book. It was all I used and I thought it explained it all very well. I made a B on LS1.

What sections/chapters are you using for LS2 from Saunders? I have found that the info skips around quite a bit.

So far, I am looking at Chapter 40, 41, 53, 54, 55, 56, 61, 62, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75 and 76. Gosh it looks like alot when you put it that way LOL

I have found that is skips around as well. I will go look at the exact chapters for you and post a new message after I get my two foot terror happy.

Edited to Add: Which chapters did you all use for LS1?

For LS1 I used the following units:: unit 9- oncological disorders and meds, unit 12- respiratory disorders and meds and unit 13- cv disorders and meds. That's all I used. Hope it helps!!!

I have used the same chapters, with the slight addition of bits out of the child unit, but I tend to over study. Thank you for the units you used for LS1. I will let you know how LS2 is when I take it next week. Pray I pass please please please!!! I'm desperate and don't think I will be able to handle another D. I got a D barely after talking in the moderated forum. She said I needed to aim for 70s and since all of the content areas were high 60s I was probably just getting more of the ungraded questions right than the graded questions :(.

I'm so over this. I want regular classes where I can write papers and make As for papers and quizzes. ~le sigh

It is comical when put that way! lol

Btw- I thought GI (chapters 55 and 56) were in LS3... am I wrong? Besides that I have the same chapters marked off to use. I did get some info out of Chapter 35 for Peds on Autism and ADHD per the EC content guide.

Hi, I did LS1 a couple days ago and got a "B". on the actual exam, I am not sure how the percentages are calculated because all 3 content areas were scored with high 60's and I still received a good grade. The exam was very difficult by the end I actually thought I failed. I even changed a few answers in the end that were correct to wrong answers because I was so nervous and worried.

I studied mostly from Saunders the " 4th Ed" because I can't handle reading all those chapters in the required text. Sauders basically breaks it down in smaller portion and key points. I also do a lot of practice questions. Answering a lot of questions will help a lot. I have a lot of other resources/textbook but I find that it gets too overwhelming if I try to use too many sources to study from so I'm trying to keep my sources to a minimum.

Hope this helps and good luck next time. You'll do fine. Just do a lot of NCLEX styled questions.

The hepatic stuff (cirrhosis, encephalopathy) is all in the GI chapters, along with the stuff on pancreas, gallballder, esophageal varices, etc. The GI you will see on LS3 is more r/t Crohn's disease, UC, Hepatitis (infectious disease section) but I have noted some over laps :-)

I'm envious that you got similar scores in the content area to me and you passed it and I didn't. I will get it next time!!!

I also noted overlap since I have taken LS3 already, I found it a bit easier to grasp the other things. I also noticed that reviewing the physiology has helped. In my practice I have found I need to do more studying on the meds and I should be good to go for LS2.
