LPNs in Alberta?

Published

Hi, so I just got my license this January and I have not had any luck with finding jobs. It's been six months not a single call and I've looked everywhere in BC and it's looking pretty dim. So I decided to look into Alberta

My question is is the job market for nurses good in Alberta? How are they with hiring new grads? I've been turned away many times because of my lack of experience :( ..

Specializes in General Internal Medicine, ICU.

I'm a RN and I was in the same boat as you when I graduated last year. No jobs in Vancouver (where I lived), and no call backs from any of the numerous job postings I applied to from all six health authorities in BC. I applied to Alberta and got an offer in a rural town...took it and never looked back. There are jobs in Alberta, but you may have to start off in a rural area. Calgary and Edmonton are quite saturated with new grads, thus hard to get your toe in the door if you're a new grad.

Good luck!

Alberta, like BC will hire local new grads first. Don't expect to walk into a full time line. They are few and far between. Most new hires are either half time or casual.

Be prepared to work in LTC first.

Don't relocate without a job.

Expect it to take at least two months for the practice permit to be issued and be prepared to shell out cash on notary fees, etc.
