Hello,Its been a while since Ive posted.I joined in 2004.And I love this site.Reading other nurses questions and concerns have helped me feel better when I become discouraged or lose confidence.Thank you all.Im still doing Home care.Been with the same company for 2 years.Plan on staying with them through nursing school for my RN.My question or concern is I have been awarded nurse of the year.Which makes me feel very good.But I know a nurse who has been with this company 10+ years.Works full time and has a family.I asked this nurse if she ever was awarded nurse of the year after she congradulated me and she said no.And I felt bad.She told me that I always fill in when they are in a bind. And that they dont know what they would do without me.Made me feel good.I told her she should have it though.Any comments is greatly appreciated.

Well, I think that it is wonderful that you were considered for this award, and I believe that if you think this deeply about that nurse receiving the same or similar, you may consider approaching administration and spelling out her attributes to the facility and how she helped you. At times, people get these things because they are in the right place at the right time, and the right person recognized them. Not saying that you did not deserve it, but that the same people may not have noticed this other nurse.

I am a new orientee at my job,where I previously worked as a patient care associate (similar to medical assistant, and sort of an advanced CNA). Since working in the clinic, I found that when they paired me with RNs, they didn't train me well because they were unclear of the function of the LPN. Even the staff education person did not know. I asked the staff ed nurse to place me with an LPN and the two that she placed me with taught me WELL!! I plan to send them an email to acknowledge these two ladies for clearing up a great deal of my questions. Or, consider writing her a letter of recommendation or a letter that she can keep in her file or resume to compliment her. WHat a great honor that may be that the Nurse of the Year writes in her letter that she was considered to be more deserving than the recipient. Congrats, again!
