LPN or RN

Currently attending MTC, takin my pre-req's. Waiting list for RN program is 3yrs. I am getting kinda discouraged here! Wondering should I do LPN then make smooth transition to RN program? I am not getting younger but sometimes feel like I am in a rush to do things, don't have any kids at home, one and only daughter is away in Army, so I have nothing but time. Just need some advice. ;(

Are there other RN programs in your area or just this one? How long is the wait to get in to the LPN program? How long does it take to complete the LPN once you're in? Do you have all your pre-reqs completed for the RN/LPN? How long will it take to finish the RN once the LPN is complete? How long will the wait time be between LPN completion and RN admission? Is the RN program a 2 year or 4 year program?

Add up how much time it's going to take, start to finish, for both. If the timeline is close, go for the RN. You never know if you are going to get bumped up on the list, especially if you're a good candidate (e.g. high GPA, an A in all pre-reqs, high test scores, etc.)

Another consideration is do hospitals, clinics or other institutions hiring looking for associate or bachelors degree in nursing, is there a strong preference for BSN over adn/ASN ? it seems like the shorter pathway would be RN, and then maybe RN to BSN. try to do well on prereqs the first time you take them. Study and read daily. Buy a good voice recorder if you can. Detailed notes will help you a lot. The recorder was really nice for micro, anatomy, and physiology.

Good luck :geek:
