LPN to RN 1+1

Well, Hondros, Bohecker, RETS all have LPN to RN programs. Bohecker's is a little over a year (I think 15 months if you do the day program, 18 months if you do the night program). I'm not sure about the others. I know places like Cincinnati State, Christ, Good Sam, Sinclair have LPN to RN, also, but I don't know how long it takes to get through those and there MIGHT be a waiting list for some of them. Have you checked out Rio Grande University online? www.rio.edu They have LPN to RN (not sure how long it takes). All classes are online and then you drive to the southern part of Ohio one day a week for clinicals. It's a bit of a drive from Cincy, but you only do it once a week. That's where I'm planning to go for my RN, after I complete my LPN at Bohecker.

I'm currently at Bohecker also, I would like to know more about RIO Grand. I went to the website and there was limited info on the online program, could you tell me more it would be about a 2 1/2 hour drive from my house to there campus but if most of it is online it might be worth it to me.

I could not find much info on Rio's website either. I ended up calling them just to get an idea. They told me that you take all courseswork online and then drive to clinicals one day a week. It sounds good. The total cost of the program with books, uniforms, etc. was around $7,000 from what they told me. They are also NLN accredited and have FULL accreditation from the OBN. You might call them. They are very friendly and will answer any and all questions. There is also Indiana State University. They have an online LPN-BSN program. It is accepted by the state of Ohio as sufficient to take the NCLEX. You do your coursework online, and then you do all your clinicals in the Cincinnati area. They have a list of clinical sites on their webpage. There are quite a few in this area. You might check them out, too.

On a side note, I have not actually started Bohecker. I start 12/3/09 for the LPN. Can you tell me what you honestly think of the program? Also, are you days or evenings? What is your schedule like as far as beginning/ending times, and where did you do your clinicals at? I'm having a hard time deciding if they are the right choice for me with their Provisional Accreditation status and the cost of $21,000. Thanks!

I go to Bohecker-Cincinnati. They're classes aren't bad. Your first term, you wanna study your butt off! I'm going into the second term, I hear it's nowhere near like the first term, and third term is easier than the first two. First term, I went most days like 8-3 sometimes 4. I had clinicals once a week from 7-3 and one day, on Wednesdays my Psych classes were only from 8-12. Next term, I am doing Clinical's two days a week, monday and tues from 7-12, then in class from 1-4:30, rest of the week is lab and lecture from about the same time.

As far as accreditation, seriously, don't let it scare you. I've had a very long talk with the director. It will not affect your License, or you sitting for the NCLEX. They do have an articulation agreement with Indiana Wesylan University, they take 40 credit hours. You have to complete another 20 of pre-reqs, and then 18 months to get your BSN, they also offer MSN degrees. Indiana Wesylan told me they have agreements with Cincinnati State, Gateway community college, and some other colleges and they take the full 60 credit hours, so there's only like one pre-req. Sorry this is a lot of info but hopefull it helps!

Some colleges require you have NLN accreditation to get your BSN, MSN. Most I have looked at do not, including University of Cincinnati, one of the biggest hospitals down here. So, you just need to decided if they're accreditation bugs you enough to go somewhere else. There are LOTS of waiting lists, and lots of other schools whom are lacking their NLN accreditation.
