LPN to RN?

So I have been in college for a while majoring in biology, I mostly just have some gen ed out of the way. Now I am thinking about just going into a LPN program. However, after I work as an LPN for a while I am interested in becoming an RN. I have a few questions: 1. what exactally does an LPN do? 2. how hard is it to go form an LPN to an RN? Thanks!

Hi,

This is very simplistic and there are more differences but in my experience the major differences in being an RN and LPN is that RNs do initial assessments, push IV meds and hang blood. School wise it is a bit more detailed as we go along but very similar.

It seemed in my area that getting into a LPN to RN bridge program is a bit easier than getting into an RN program because in most cases you are essentially taking the place of a second year student that didn't make it and sadly there usually quite a few openings of that type. I applied to 3 LPN to ADN programs and 1 LPN to BSN program and got accepted into everything except one ADN bridge program that wanted a longer work history.

Good luck! Jules
