I need help! I am going to start home study for my RN. I am scared to death! I have been an LPN for 14 yrs and have forgotten how to study.(As stupid as that may sound) I feel like I need to memorize EVERYTHING I read. Anyone have any tips for me? Thanks.

Hi,

I'd get an NCLEX review book because they offer good test taking tips as well as practice questions which should help you get a feel for what is important when it comes to test time. You will get back in you groove very quickly. I wanted to add that its important to make sure the study at home program you are doing is one that will be accepted by your BON because there are some that aren't legit. Good luck.

First of all ,congratulations on taking this big step!!

It can be done, i promise.. I was an LPN for 18 yrs before I went back. ( kept taking classes one at a time till my advisor said i had exhasuted all options but the clinicals and nursing classes.

Most important step is organization . Get a binder. and some index cards. Make flash cards of important notes from the lecture. keep them in the binder for when you study.

Highlight as you read. Read it once before lecture then after ... it will make more sense to you.

get involved in a study group. mine met weekly or more often. We outlined every chapter and note and rehashed. amazing how much you dont recall on your own.

Leave some time for yourself and family. I had one day a week I declared a no study day... it refreshed me enough so that I could persevere. I also limited intense study to an hour at a time and then took a break and did something around the house... so it didnt fall around me!:icon_roll

Just my :twocents:good luck!!!
