Lower Back Pain

I know certain things can't be told, but my friend has a situation, and I was wondering if I could get any ideas/opinions. He says it feels like he has something floating in his lower back. He says he gets sharp pain ocassionally. When he uses an inversion table he says it helps a lot. Any help would be great.
