low teas score

Published

ok so i am very discouraged. i am tryin to get into macon state nursing program and it is competitve. I made a 62.7 on the teas test. needless to say i always do bad on standardized testing. All the school needs is a 62 to look at u. my GPA is good 3.7. do yall think i have a chance of getting in the program?

3.7 is a solid GPA.. Will the school allow you to retake the TEAS again? If they do, I would buy the TEAS guide and study it over and over. And when you're done, study it some more! Then retake the TEAS for a better score. If you're applying to a school that's as 'competitive' as you say, it's going to be very tough to get in with a 62.. but good luck!

thanks, they only allow u to take the test one time per application period. i hope i havent ruined my chances.:uhoh3:

How are your prereqs going? If you still have a bunch to do, don't even worry about it. Just keep taking them and apply again next time around with a new TEAS score. If you're just about done with them, I would apply to other area schools as well for a greater chance of being accepted (as long as your credits transfer, of course).

well i only have micro to take and was gonna do it in the summer to be ready to go in the fall. i applied for both the BSN and ASN programs there. they accept 50 applicants for each program. i was told today they go by both GPA and TEAS, but they would not say which one weighed most .

More then likely the gpa has more weight. Good luck

I'm not sure with your school but from my experience, different schools have different ways of reviewing applicants. Some schools look for best test scores AND grade point average. Some look at everything, not just test scores and GPA. I got into a school that looked at my application from a holistic standpoint and they talked to me about my application if I had any questions. I thought I had a weak GPA and average TEAS score but they said I was a good candidate for their program after reading my personal essay.

I would suggest looking into other schools. I looked into several schools and most of them I lucked out until I found the one that accepted me (which was totally unexpected to be honest). Practice the TEAS questions and remember to pace yourself at a steady speed but don't freak out when you retake it. To me, I think the TEAS is testing on how well you can answer all the questions correctly within the allotted time. If you practice, you will familiarize yourself with your speed and know which types of problems you have difficulty on. I personally think that the TEAS was less stressful/easier than the NET (which is being phased out, I think) and it allows schools to see more than just your math and reading abilities.

Also, you could try looking at your test score sheet (by signing into your ATI account that you should have used to sign up for your TEAS exam) to see what areas you need more practice on. Focus on those and you should do better next time. I was never a good standardized test-taker but I just learned to calm down and just answer what I know (and make educated guesses on ones I didn't and then go back to them when/if you have time). Don't waste time and energy freaking out during the exams. Good luck!!

thanks for the help! :)

I took the TEAS and got a 62 overall avg, and retook it and got a 68 overall avg. Both were very low and I was very discouraged. I called my nursing department and they told me this was the first semester they were doing the TEAS and that I would have been okay with the first score. So the second was even better. I wouldnt stress too much. Each school is different.

thanks that helps i have heard that some people were makin in the low 80 and then others was not even makin it to the cutoff which is 62. i hope i can squeeze by. msc switched over to the teas a few semesters ago but the proctor was sayin that the one i took was a new form of the test. i hope they take that in consideration!

Hey Krob84 I was wondering if you applied to the nursing program there how long does it take them to inform you of your acceptance. I want to start my pre reqs this summer because I want to apply for fall 2011. How are the classes and instructors? Because I've heard that MSC i one of the hardest schools for nursing in the middle Georgia area.

well i applied to boththe ASN and BSN programs in the beginning of jan. i just took teas on Monday and they said i would know if i was accepted by the end of april. It takes awhile because my advisor said it is a long process to choose who the nursing class will be. As far as core classes none of them were difficult to me exept A&PI and II ( which i am still tryin to get through:)) those take some effort. Hope i helped.
