I'm looking into going back to school to hopefully become an Rn. I'm 35 a single mom with a 5 year old. I don't know where to start. I'm a Cna right now and have been one for 7-8 years now. I don't want to spend 4-5 years in school. Is there any other options I have??

Thank you.

You could go for your LPN/LVN first which here is only a year of school and then later on you could go through an LPN/LVN to RN bridge program. It would allow you to at least get back to the workforce full-time quicker than the RN route. I'm currently going for my RN and it has taken me 1 year to complete the co-requisites in prepare for the entrance exam to make sure that I was competitive enough for acceptance.

If you have the financial means to do so I would suggest going ahead and completing all of the courses that your program for your school asks such as: anatomy and physiology, english, psychology, etc. Whenever the application period opens up I would apply to both the ADN and LPN/LVN programs and see which opportunity you're given.

It's going to take 4-5 years of your time, no matter which route you take. There aren't any shortcuts. Some routes (LPN ->ADN->BSN) may take longer. But time will pass, no matter what you choose to do. In 5 years, you really don't want to be lamenting the fact that you didn't start in 2017 like you should have. Think how proud your child will be when you become a nurse.

Do you have a bachelor's in any other field? If so, do an accelerated BSN. It is fast, rigorous, and, quite expensive. However, you will be done in 12-18 months. Do you work at a hospital as a CNA? Find out if your employer will be willing to assist you in covering your RN tuition.
