Nurses Career Support

Published

I have been a RN for almost 3 years and I am struggling to find my place in the nursing world. My first job as a RN was on a unit I had previously worked as a tech on, and I was put in a charge nurse position right out of school. This hospital system has a large number of LPN and I was put in the charge position because I had the letters RN after my name. I left that position after almost 9 months of dealing with "crap" from a lot of the other nurses who didn't like that I was a charge nurse and the fact that I was not qualified for the charge role and that I wanted more hands on nursing experience. I was in contract with that hospital system so I transferred to another facility. This was a much smaller hospital and it was a night position. I worked as a staff RN and as a charge nurse at this other facility, and while the job was easy I didn't feel it was advancing my nursing knowledge like I wanted it to. So, I had the opportunity to move to Savannah, GA and dummy me took the first job that was offered to me on a unit that had a lot of problems. I left that job for a lot of reasons one being no support from supervisors or managers, and since July 2007 I have NOT had a nursing job and I am wondering if I should even be a nurse anymore. Any advise is more than welcome.

Specializes in OPERATING ROOM, ICU.

Don't quit nursing. Apply for a position somewhere else. Forewarned is forearmed. Ask questions at your interview. Be honest in your desire for a staff nurse position where you can learn and expand your skills.

As you know there are many different fields within the Nursing Profession.

Why don't you sit down and write your goals and expectations.

Where do you see yourself in say 5 years.

What really got you interested while doing your Nursing Program?

That may assist you to find the place you desire to be in.

Heck it has taken me 30+ years to be in a place that I am truly contented but I have enjoyed all areas that I worked in.

I wish you continued success in your nursing career. :)
