Salaries are probably better but the cost of living is also significantly higher and jobs are few and far between. What degree do you have? Essentially ALL Boston and many suburban hospitals won't even look at a resume unless the applicant has a BSN.

I am making around 32 per hour with 2 years experience... Union hospitals inside of Boston, can be greater then $60 an hour. However, I don't know what they would classify you within their union because you came from an outside hospital. So I would say close to $40 dollars an hour if you have 14 years of significant hospital experience.

If you get a job at a union hospital, they should pay you union scale based on your years of experience. I was quoted at step 5 when last year because of my experience, even though it wasn't with that company, when I interviewed with a union facility. A friend recently left our non-union hospital in Boston proper (we were both making $31/hr with 4 1/2 years experience, so I gather fullefect1 must be at a union facility) and went to work at a union hospital in the suburbs and is being paid scale based on her experience. With 14 years experience, I'd say you should expect probably $45-$50/hr. Non-union hospitals don't have union scales to abide by though and don't care as much about market comparisons as they say they do (there's no shortage of nursing applicants up in Boston)... with a BSN and 14 years experience, I'd say you'll be a good applicant to many Boston hospitals... the problem would be that with that much experience they'll also view you as an "expensive" nurse... my old hospital now only hires new grads because of how cheap they are.
