Looking for a Mentor

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi,

I am currently enrolled in a 5 year International Nursing Program. I am a third year student and have recently begun clinicals. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in being my mentor in terms of being available to answer questions.

I am interested in working as a psychiatric nurse and continuing my education in order to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

I also have a chronic illness which sometimes interferes with my studies.

If anyone would be interested in being my mentor, please reply to this post or send me a private message. I welcome any type of nurses but would especially appreciate a mentor who has a disability or chronic illness or who has an interest in psychiatry.

Thank you! :heartbeat

I am more than willing to help. The only thing that matches what you need though is an interest in psychiatry. :) But if there is anything I can do, I am more than happy too.

I think nurses should stick together and help out each other any way they can!

All you need to do is post questions that you have in regard to your assignments on this forum. That is what this forum is for. Private messaging is not needed for that.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

Daytonite, perhaps I didn´t explain myself fully. Sometimes the questions a nursing student may have nothing to do with assignments. In particular, right now one of the hardest decisions I am having to make is to decide whether to decide to take a semester off due to a recent diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia. If I have a question about an assignment, I have observed that this forum is full of nurses willing to help out.

However, sometimes life throws challenges at each of us that are unexpected. Perhaps what I wanted to know is if anyone was willing to answer questions that were more oriented towards how it is to work as a nurse at the same time as having a chronic illness or disability. Or what your experiences as a psychiatric nurse have been? I have heard a lot of negative things about working in the area of psychiatry. Especially in terms of how emotionally difficult it can be to work in particular with psychiatric patients or in the worst of cases, dealing with a patient´s suicide.

Chic, I will go ahead and PM you.

Take care everyone. Hapy Holidays and Happy New Year! :yeah:
