Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency.

Hi I am currently an LPN and am a nursing student (going for my BSN). When I finish school I am considering moving to Italy and was wondering if anyone knew what the requirements for licensure are there and if that is even a good idea in terms of employment and such. thank you so much for your help.

If you use the search facility for this forum you will find a few threads regarding Italy but hopefully this link will help. You do need to be fluent but also need to be aware that you may have problem finding a employer willing to support your work permit. At the moment EU countries are expected to employ from their own country first then the rest of the EU before elsewhere in the world, unless you have an exceptional experience that they are struggling to fill through normal routes

As a new grad from the US, it is going to be impossible to do right away. You will need to pass their language exam, as well as their licensure exam; both in Italian. They will not even look at your application until you have a completed set of transripts to submit to them.

Very difficult to get a visa to work there, if you do not have EU citizenship at this time. Since they are a member of the EU, jobs go first to citizens of Italy, then to EU passport holders. If you will be applying for the visa on your own, almost impossible with the state of things there right now. If from a spouse or fiance from there, then you may have a chance.

And as a new grad, there is no significant experience history that they may be requiring for a certain position.
