Looking for some advice...

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some advice on courses. I am looking at taking A&P1 in the fall 09, then A&P2 in the Spring 2010 and

if all goes well Microbiology in Summer 2010. I need to know if I should take these classes like they are with No other classes or if I could take Human Growth & Development at the same time as A&P1, Nutrition with A&P2, and Algebra with Microbiology.

I work at least 40 hours a week in construction right now. Plan on submitting weighted admission form to an ADN Nursing program to start Spring 2011. I need the A&P1, A&P2, and Microbiology to really get in the program for high numbers. The other classes will advance me faster in school on the BSN side. Just need to hear from some experienced people if the classes should be taken separately.

In advance Thanks for the help. I am glad I found this site.

Have you taken any science courses yet? It can certainly be done but are you married with kids? Do you have plenty of time to study or are you already very busy? My advice is that you start out taking A&P I, see how you do, and go from there. Or enroll and start both and see how things progress and be prepared to drop before the penalty date in case you are overloaded. Your course plan sounds great but I have never had to juggle school and work. I did give birth and stay at home for a year while taking 7 credits online per semester every semester. But that wasn't hard. I was only taking English, history, psychology and nutrition courses. You did say that you were going into an ADN program and that those other courses were only to get a head start on your BSN, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't work out.

Whatever you do good luck!

I took Communications with A&P I and am taking Dev Psych with A&P II. I work 24 hours a week plus have a couple of horses showing this year. I don't find it too difficult.

I never take more than one class over the summer, though, because of the shorter semester.

I am currently in A&P 1 and Lifespan Development. I take A&P in the classroom and my psy. class online. I work 3 days a week and have no small children. If you can be sure to put 1 to 2 hours a day aside to study, you should be ok. But like the other poster replied, if it gets too hard, just drop the psyc. class before the deadline.

Thanks Everyone for the advice.

It all depends on how smart you are (in grade school I got incomplets the teacher couldn't even give me a 0) haha I always took one science class at a time and one math class, I am terrible at both. I took general psych and developmental psych online I think its the best way to go you'll pass them for sure :). I wouldn't take chemistry or micobiology online because the the labs will be hard to do at home (you actually have to mix liquids and things). I would do A&P-1 and 2 online or in the summer (the labs are done in a book and you just re-type them, you have to label body parts its easy if online) and if you do them in the summer your labs include you memorizing body parts and then your teacher will label them with numbers and you just have to number from one to 10 or something and but down the name of the vein or artery or what have you. Math and English I have always taken at school but medical terminology online. Online classes are a bit more expensive but worth it especially if you do not have as much time as you'd like and you are sure to pass them. If you have any question's let me know I have done all my pre-required classes except A&P-2 which I am taking online this summer :) oh and one more thing that I learned the hard way, make sure your online class is worth the 4 or 5credits that you need for the program you are applying for I did A&P-1 online and the nursing program needed it to be 5 and the class was 4credited so I re-took it in the summer :(. And almost all programs want the science classes to include a lab so make sure you inform yourself before you enroll.
