hello
i will be shadowing on a cardiac step down unit tomorrow. the nurse manager said it was up to how long i wanted to stay. i dont want to seem uninterested and stay only an hour. i was planning on about 2-3 hours. is this the norm?

I would go from the start of the shift until lunch. If there is really something good going on then, I would stay for the entire shift to get a grasp on what working on that unit is like.

I like this approach.
If it were me, I might be concerned that I might be floated there in the near future and would be taking notes...probably I would stay longer, especially if I were being paid to shadow. Money, it's a good thing.

i would stay all day.... if i were being paid. i am not.
this is going to sound weird but i am not even accepting the position. i have another offer that i am going to accept, but i just want to follow through on my agreement

just wondering why you are shadowing? Is that typical before accepting a job? If you aren't taking it, aren't they going out of their way to have you there and maybe you should tell them? I'd hate to waste their time, (and yours) if you aren't doing it?
i dont believe they are going out of their way. its part of their job to do this. i dont think its really a waste of time either because shadowing change my mind. besides my manager suggested that i follow through with it.
