When i first started at the VA, i wasn't told about the loan forgiveness program. i heard it through the grapevine and when i talked to the education department about it, they explained it to me and told me not to worry about it at the time. 10 days after i had been employed six months, they told me i was no longer eligible because i had to have the paperwork filled out within six months of my date of hire. I was wondering if other facilities have had this problem?

I just accepted a position at the VA. I was led to believe that the loan forgiveness program was available to all RN's and have now heard from the nurse recruiter that it is only available to those with a BSN. I am a diploma nurse and was wondering if any diploma nurses have received this award?

I have been in the VA system for 2 years. I was told about it during orientation, but since I had my RN before I came to the VA, I was not eligible for it. As far I know, I didn't know that it only applied for BSNs. To me a RN is a RN no matter if h/she has a BSN or not. Putting two RNs side by side, could you tell who has a BSN?
I just finished my BSN on 8/11 in an RN to BSN completion program. There are many schlorships out there, maybe you can find one that will help you repay back the money you owe. And just for the record, I am still waiting for the VA to pay for my last semester. They are extremely slow in doing so. My school has been very patient. I will graduate in October, I hope that they will have paid by then, if not, then I have a loan that I took out just in case.
Good luck.
