Get the text book. I have found the classes I did best in were the ones were I waited until class starts to hit the books. The reason is the instructor will guide you to the important parts for the class they are teaching. Remember school is not to learn "everything". It is often to simply learn to accomplish the task as ordered. Meaning..you are given and instruction and you are to complete the task. No one remembers everything from college, but they do build a good work ethic and learn to complete assigned tasks. You learn how to study, organize, prioritize, etc.

My teacher hasn't tell me which text book we will be using she emailed me saying we are having a f2f orientation but doesn't know the date yet

If you start reading something else you could read something different than the text book. I never bought anything early and I did well in school. Just bought the book at the beginning of the semester and then did what I was assigned to do. Good luck.
