licensure in multiple states

Published

can you be licensed from new york and work in nj? is there anything that you have to do?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Neither NY nor NJ are members of the nursing license compact (NLC) therefore if you have a NY license and wish to work in NJ you would need to obtains a NJ nursing license by endorsement. You would have to apply to NJBON, pay all fees, complete fingerprinting and a background check as well as proof of an active NY license in good standing.

If you lived in a NLC participating state like VA you could work in another NLC state like MD as long as your license was in good standing with VA BoN and you maintain a permanent residence in VA

There is a link to all US state boards of nursing at the bottom of each page of this site or you can find it here: https://allnurses.com/boards-of-nursing-info.html. You can check licensing requirements by state online.

Specializes in Pedi.

You have to get a license for New Jersey.
