can you be licensed from new york and work in nj? is there anything that you have to do?

Neither NY nor NJ are members of the nursing license compact (NLC) therefore if you have a NY license and wish to work in NJ you would need to obtains a NJ nursing license by endorsement. You would have to apply to NJBON, pay all fees, complete fingerprinting and a background check as well as proof of an active NY license in good standing.
If you lived in a NLC participating state like VA you could work in another NLC state like MD as long as your license was in good standing with VA BoN and you maintain a permanent residence in VA

You have to get a license for New Jersey.
