Hi,
This is my first time posting here, and hopefully I posted this thread in the right place. I work as an RN in Texas and had a question about license discipline. I recently resigned to avoid termination from a major hospital. The DoN claimed that I was "too rough" with a patient in the unit and that my care "was not compassionate."She stated that I was too rough while removing the tape from an IV (which was blood soaked and not stuck on that well) and that I turned the patient by her arm instead of "gently cradling" the baby. She then went on to say that I "scrubbed the bloody arm" too hard, which I didn't think I did, I was just trying to get the baby's arm clean. NO harm whatsoever was done to the patient. If anything at all, I was in a hurry since I had a heavy pt load that night with NO help whatsoever from the charge nurse.
I tried to argue my case that I would NEVER intentionally be rough with a patient or cause harm. I have been a nurse for 3 years and have never had an issue with anything like this. They didn't even listen to my side of the story and already had the paperwork filled in before we even met! I am almost wondering if they did this because I wasn't in the "popular" crowd.
So my question is...if they do report me to the BNE, is it likely that any disciplinary action will occur from this situation? Maybe I'm just overreacting but I'm trying to get a second opinion on this so I can prepare to take some action. Thanks for your help in advance!
