I would find out if you would have to take the test in the state where you are getting the degree and also if the state where you are going would let you take the exam there with your degree in CA and as the first test. If it were me I would contact the Office of Professions for both states and get the exact info. I don't know if those states have reciprocity.
Thanks guys! I appreciate your feedback.
It almost seems easier to get my license here in California and then get ANOTHER license in Illinois. But I am still trying to figure out how it all works.
I don't get the paperwork for both states - they obviously need proof that I graduated before I sit for NCLEX..but I am still able to register before then. But then how does the BON deem me eligible to take the test when I still haven't graduated? I'm just lost.

I would almost suggest you get your initial license in Illinois. Only because our licensure process is slow, even for in-state people. As I understand it, transferring your license here can be a total nightmare. We had an RN come to our hospital from Indy and he couldn't work without a preceptor for about 6-8 weeks, while the transfer process went through.

Hi everybody,
I need your advice. I am in nursing school in California but will be moving to Illinois when I graduate.
Do you recommend I take the NCLEX here and transfer my license to Illinois? Or take the NCLEX in Illinois?
Thanks for your help! :)
