Liability Insurance

Quick question -

Med/Surg nurse here, about to complete first year. As of now, I have been covered under NSO for - what I guess - is their basic plan ($6M aggregate/up to $1M for each claim with further coverage for license protection etc.). Can anyone offer some advice here?

What type of plan should I have? I stuck with these guys because I was covered by them as a student - do they cut it, now? Is there a better firm out there offering more comprehensive coverage? -- When I inquired with them what my options where they kind of blew me off and shooed me into this plan. That makes me uncomfortable and unfortunately anyone I've asked at work seems to be as ignorant as I am (having followed the same route as me)...

And can someone please tell me what an aggrregate is? LOL

Many here use NSO, as do I.

No, they don't "cut" you, but you must notify them that you are licensed and no longer a student so your coverage can reflect this. For those within 12 months of graduation, the premiums are also adjusted.

aggregate=the maximum dollar coverage under the policy

1/6 is the highest coverage with NSO. I'd stick with that.

The best plans from what I have read, are plans that cover you for anything that happened at any time, provided that the suit was filed while the policy was active. I hear that there are policies that do not cover you if the suit is for something that happened years ago when you were not insured with the company at the time of the incident.

Good to know - thank you. I guess the only thing to do regarding that point is to inquire as to whether one's policy covers past events and for how long... It's a shame things aren't more clear - it seems like I am always scrambling for information in this profession... from insurance to hospital policy and procedures - no one is ever really sure and "the powers that be" are never as forth-coming and as supportive as I'd like them to be (...they should be)... but that's another post entirely... Thank you.
