Does anyone make the commute from long island to new York city?

If so, from where on LI? How long does it take total...what time do you have to leave..and how bad is it when you have multiple shifts in a row?

Are you talking about driving from LI to NYC? if so, just use mapquest or google maps and that will give you an ETA. Traffic into the city during am and pm rush hour out of LI is rough.

You also have the option of taking the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road): http://lirr42.mta.info/ . It takes you from the closest LIRR stop (nearby you) to Penn Station in the city. Honestly, in my opinion, it is NOT a bad commute- especially if you're going from mainly anywhere Nassau County to the city.

I was talking about LIRR. I am from Bethpage, NY: Nassau County and the LIRR to Penn is 55 minutes which is pretty long considering you still need a subway. I am just asking for a ballpark about when people leave... 55min + at least a 20 min subway ride to any hospital is pretty bad considering you want to plan to arrive 30 min prior to shift, then once you get out reversing that commute home and having to do it the next day is why I wanted to know if people are able to get by doing it...

One of my coworkers takes the LIRR in everyday from Huntington. Train+subway she says is 90 minutes each way. Poor thing, I don't know how she does it. When it snows, she's stuck out there. She bolts out the door every day to catch a train. She's been here for 1.5 years, so she's making it work.
