Level 2 background checks at LTC

They are now asking for all staff to complete a level 2 background check if they have not done so yet. Some of the staff both nurses and CNA's are worried(not me) because they have prior arrests in their past. So what happens if a person fails a level 2 background? Do you think they will be terminated? The CNA's are in a union. Will the union be able to save their job if they fail a level 2 background check?

What is a level 2 background check? How is it different?

My understanding is that a level 1 background check includes an employment history check and a statewide criminal search by using a name based check. A level 2 background check requires fingerprinting for statewide criminal history checks through a name based check and fingerprint check that is also checked with the FBI

Years ago, I worked at a facility that used to do a 7 yr "look back" on criminal history. They changed policy to make it a 10 yr "look back" and ran everybody that worked there. They "caught" several employees with histories in that extra 3 yrs who were subsequently fired.

As a side, Texas does fingerprinting and a mug shot for nurses to be licensed. All nurses in this state are required to have that done before they can be licensed or before their license is renewed. I would imagine if your company found someone out, they would have to follow their policy on criminal history. May not end well for some who work there.

We have been interviewing for care aides. Recently we had 2 good prospects that had experience. But when we told them we will be doing a background check using KROLL they both said they had a retail theft a few years ago. Our policy is not to go any further. They both got upset and say it has never stopped them from being hired anywhere else. One even said her lawyer told her that a retail theft could not be a reason not to hire her. I don't understand how they get hired by other local facilities?

Thanks to all for your comments. I don't know for sure what they are going to do to the people at my job who do not pass the Level 2 screening. My guess is that they will probably fire those who do not pass the level 2 background screening like they did at the Texas facility mentioned here.

They told the staff here recently that they must get their level 2 background screening done ASAP. I just now found out that they have taken both CNA's and nurses "off the schedule" who haven't gotten their level 2 background checks done yet.
