Lets Be Friends

Published

Hey Guys,

Ashley here! I've been all over 'allnurses' for the past few weeks now reading so many different posts from so many different genres in this forum. I must say it is all very exciting.

A little background on myself, I graduated from Penn State back in 2014 with my degree in Psych. I ended up moving away from psychology later on in my college career and more towards the business side of things. After I graduated, I ended up working in B2B sales for a fortune 500 for just over 2 years and really loved it. Unfortunately, I was let go (I was ready to go) and decided I would go get my MBA. I love the medical field and wanted to find my way back to it and a dream of mine has always been to be a Hospital Administrator. So I was looking for that concentration or all together an MHA. I only applied to my #1 school of choice and did not get it in (I am very lucky for that. Another story a different day). So I went on with my grad school search and in the midst of me being down, nursing crossed my mind. I always have had the most respect for nurses and even envied them because I believe they are all so smart and talented and they also have so many opportunities and choices for their career; I started to wish that I went to school for nursing instead (truthfully, I've always had that thought cross my mind from time to time). Well, after many hours discussing the pros and the cons with my family, I begin taking my prerequisites in January at Cedar Crest College (let me know if you're going or go there)!

With all of that said, I wanted to make some new friends who are in the same boat as me. I wanted to reach out to those that are going for this goal but are in the very early stages because I can feel the anxiety already so I know you are too. There's a lot riding on these pre reqs like money, time, and making sure you get great grades and it is still not a guarantee if you will get in. There may be a lot of doubts coming from all different places making you not sure if this is the path you should take. There's also a lot of excitement and dreaming going on. So I just want to be able to create a support system and be able to bounce ideas off each other, ask questions, even study together, whatever it may be. Lets just be pre-nursing school friends (this offer is not limited either so really anyone can join in!)

:)

Hello! I don't think I'm really in the same boat as you, but at least we're both pre-nursing students! This is my first semester at my local college in Seattle, WA and I'm taking the general education classes since i have no other degrees under my belt. What do you want to be after nursing school? (praying that we both finish our pre-reqs) I'm really interested in Cardiology and hope to work in a cardiac surgery ICU after I work in a med-surg unit for a while and learn the ropes of nursing!

Congrats! I wish you the best of luck on your journey. I am open to many things, obviously the more experience the more I will know, but I am leaning towards trauma/ICU. I am hoping to become a CRNA someday and I've read many times that having a couple of years in ICU is favored for going in that direction.

Hey you two! I'm a pre-nursing student as well and I happened to stumble across this post. Yessss there is a lot of anxiety involved on the path to becoming a nurse. I'm just finishing up my pre-reqs. I applied for a nursing program that will start in january, and I'm praying I'll get in. I should find out any day now! I'm not sure where I want to work yet, I'm planning on seeing how clinicals go to give me a better insight.

I'm glad you posted this thread, it's nice talking tl people who are going through the same thing!

Posted twice - sorry!

I was really into becoming a CRNA last year!! but now my heart is set on becoming a cardiac nurse cause I don't think I have the time or money to invest in grad school. It's probably going to change again I'm a very indecisive person.

Hey! I hope you do great in nursing school! Don't let it take over life and stress too much about it, I'm sure you'll do fine :)

I'll jump in on this. I also was let go from my previous job in my first chosen career field and have had a hard time getting back in the saddle so to speak. I have been an EMT since 2008 and used to work in security at a local trauma center so I figured I'd look into nursing school. Today I applied for the "Heath Services" associates degree from Mercyhurst University and if I get accepted, it will help me knock out some of the courses this spring required for their nursing program. The goal is to finish my BSN in less than three years and apply to the Navy during my last year. Looking forward to getting the ball rolling!

Thank you! It's nerve wrecking to wait for this decision. But I'm very excited to start actual nursing classes (hopefully) soon.

I'm pretty indecisive too, so I can relate. I'm sure you will figure out a way to afford grad school, if you decide fo go that route. Sometimes I feel like if it's the right things, doors that we never even thought abkut open up.

Hey Duffy27 :) Fingers crossed you get into that program! You have great goals, I bet with hard work you will achieve them.

That's awesome!

Still a little nervous, it's quite the career change for me but I know I'm not the only person out there to switch to something different.
