Langara Nursing Spring 2023

Updated:   Published

I am planning to apply to Langara's Nursing program with a GPA of 3. I know that's too low and I'm sooooooo hopeless that I can be accepted. I already retook all of the courses and I still got the same grades. Is there anyway that I can get accepted or should I just go to LPN first. All you guys' GPA are all above 3.5 so I am demotivated and I don't even know if I can do nursing :`( .

Hey,

I feel like you should still apply and give it a shot. But with the recent intakes averages, 3.0 GPA may not be a competitive GPA. Did you retake all the courses at Langara? Try retaking them at other institutions like Douglas, BCIT, etc.

Or if you don’t want to waste any more time, just do LPN and apply for the advanced entry (if you are still wanting to do a BSN)

I have a 3.602 GPA (with 2 retaken courses) that I applied with for the Fall semester 2022, and I am feeling hopeless as you are but we got this. If we really want it, we will get it.

Hey! I'm also planning to apply but I'm still finishing up my pre reqs. It might be a good idea to retake your courses at other institutions like BCIT as the other poster mentioned.

I only have 3 courses done so far:

STAT1123: A- (I'm retaking this semester and really hoping I can get that A since its a requirement ? in retrospect, I should have taken STAT1124)

BIOL1190: A-

ENGL 1177: A

I'm taking STAT1123 currently as well as BIOL1191 and ENGL1202 at KPU! I saw that the GPA average for Spring 2022 was 3.7 which is lower than the 3.8 they had previously. This still may mean that 3.0 is a bit low, but I think it would definitely be worth retaking at other schools.

Hi everyone!!

I've finished 4/5 of the courses so far and am planning to apply for this intake as well. I am wondering what the most accurate source for calculating a GPA for langara is?

the courses I have finished so far are:

bio1190: A

bio1191: A-

stat 1124: A

eng 1123: A

Hi everyone,

Would I still be considered into the program if I retook all the courses a second time? I was depressed for a long time and I shouldn’t have been in school but I managed to pull my grades up on my second try.

ENGL 1127 - B+
BIOL 1190 - A-

STAT 1124 - A

Then I’m retaking BIOL 1191 and ENGL 1130 for the first time since I only got a B for ENGL 1129

Hey!

The competitive GPA at Langara has increased a lot over the years and 3.0 might be on the lower side; seems like a GPA of 3.6 is on the safe side. If you took your prereqs at Langara, then maybe consider doing them somewhere else like VCC, because I know Langara has a tougher grading than other schools.

(For example, an A+ at VCC is 90-100% but at Langara it’s 95-100%)

You might want to spend a semester and redo 2-3 classes to get your GPA up, but if you’re feeling like you don’t want to wait to get into the program for that long, LPN might be your next best bet. Only problem is, if your end goal is becoming an RN, there might be a long waitlist to go from LPN to RN (I’ve heard some say years)!

I hope you figure it out, good luck!! ?

Hey!

I just got rejected from Langara Nursing for the fall 2022 intake with a 3.4. That's genius though to take the courses from VCC, I've only taken classes at Langara and have gotten OK grades (GPA is hovering around 3.5-3.6 depending on how I do this latest semester). If any of you have taken classes from VCC, which program do you apply for to take these prereqs? (pretty sure I'm not supposed to apply for nursing if I'm taking prereqs still and I can't find a "general studies" one)

Thanks!

Hey guys!

Got a B in ENGL 1129 last sem so I’m taking ENGL 1100 this sem and hoping to get an A.

Does anyone know if they’ll replace my ENGL 1129 mark with my ENGL 1100 mark despite being two different courses? (I also have already taken another engl course with a grade I’m satisfied with)

Thanks!

Yep! they take all of the most current marks for the pre-requisites, so that also means that if you retake a prereq and do worse, they'll take that mark unfortunately. But in your case they'll be taking the better mark since it's more recent!

Hey!

So if you look at the Langara Nursing pre-req website, they say that your second English prereq must be a course that is NOT equivalent to ENGL 1100, 1123, 1127, or 1128 (these courses can only be used as your first English prereq). So I’m not sure that you can replace your ENGL 1129 mark with ENGL 1100…only ENGL 1129 would work for your second English prereq in this case!

You might want to email an advisor with the two English courses you took and ask if they satisfy the prereqs ?

Hey!

So I applied for the University Transfer - Science program when I applied to VCC. This is basically a program that allows you to do the basic first year Science courses at college, which can be transferred to university later on if you want to switch!

I had a friend who did her prereqs at Langara say that it was kind of tough, so I think looking into VCC might be a good option because I found the courses to be pretty okay in terms of difficulty.

Hello guys. I applied with 3.6. Hoping to get in. I was waitlisted for fall intake. Just hoping Spring is less competitive.:(
