Lacking info

kinda frustrates when you are looking into a hospital system whose website and web presence is very limited.

the specialist physician info is limited as well. sure, you can look at your typical ratings websites and find out a bit eg healthgrades, medicare, ratemds, state quality sites, etc. to try to get something if a general name search really goes nowhere and there is no sign of a physician group site or the hospital system site really had nothing much to offer other than we offer these services and a physician finder. i understand that not-for-profits are allocating moneys elsewhere, but when you are trying to get a bit of a leg up should you get an interview and you got nothin to go on really, it makes you feel that the place is not up to snuff, doesn't it? in this day and age it's like a certain level of presence should be there... if thinking of a specialty, i like to internet-stalk the physicians i might see on the floor and whatnot just to get some idea. this is hard when you are looking at a wider radius for employment and want some comfort level and means to look prepared when you go in!!

you will have to excuse me, but in this long paragraph you wrote, i have no clue what you are looking for and maybe that is why you haven't received any responses. are you wanting the hospital websites to list the names of the physicians that have privileges there? they never do that and if they did, what could you possibly find out? you could read about all the credentials of a specialist, whether or not they went to an ivy league school, etc, and the physician could still be horrible to work with, and not the greatest doctor anyway. i don't get this post's point at all.

Hmmm, well maybe that is because I live near a large metro area.

Most all facilities close to me and majority of physician groups maintain content heavy websites. All hospitals do have what is referred to in my area as "physician finder", this is a tool where you can choose from physicians with privileges at the facility. Also listed is edu/insurance accepted/specialty/philosophy/etc. Often links to research etc. published. I just am interested. The hospitals and even nursing homes will be comprehensive and in great detail describe what they have to offer in the way of services/achievements/clinical prowess/philosophy/community outreach etc. very educational for any visitor. Physician websites do this as well. Again in great detail. You can really learn a lot about what experiences clinically you might be exposed to in working in these facilities. Personalities are what they are, you cannot do much about that.

I guess you did answer my question! This kind of thing just simply does not exist in some areas. But another point is that lots of money goes into this stuff! Could hire a few more nurses with some of it.

I live in the boonies of the midwest and our little community hospital and several of the local practices (especially specialist groups) have the types of websites, search mechanisms, information, and other refinements you describe. I definitely wouldn't assume it's a metro-versus-rural issue.
