VENTING about LTC settings who won't hire me ---I am a LPN. I graduated in 1997. I have worked in a OB/GYN office since this time. Now I decided to leave & look for a new job in a LTC setting so that I can freshen up my clinical skills. You'll never guess what's happening----these places will not hire me because I have "no experience" in this setting!!!! I'm appaulled!!!:( Am I like the only LPN who can't get a job in a nursing home? My friends laugh at me!! (luckily I can laugh w/them) :chuckle

Anyone else have this problem? I am working towards my RN & I really need to get into LTC to freshen up my skills!! These places just make me mad. I have applied to at least 10, with 3 interviewing telling me "sorry".

Frustrated, Kelly:uhoh3:

I am a newly-licensed LVN without any experience as a nurse. I was recently hired onto my first nursing job. Guess who hired me? A nursing home.

I totally believe that....Even though you're not experienced "yet" you did just finish in the clinical setting correct? That's my problem, I haven't been in the clinical setting (doing G-Tubes, Trachs, JP pumps, wound care etc...) since 1997. This is just very frustrating!!! I did some pretty "major" procedures at my OB/GYN office & a nursing home says I don't have experience!!! The best way to get in LTC is to do what you did...go after graduating! Good Luck to you......
