I've heard that Kaiser prefers ICU nurses to have at least 5 years of experience before being accepted to the program. Would you guys mind stating how many years of ICU experience you had before being accepted??

Thanks!

I have 3 years of ICU experience. My ICU experience is all in a Teaching university and a Level 1 trauma center.

If you go to CSUF's nursing website and click on the graduate school section, you will see the CRNA portion and they have a really good FAQ section that will answer a lot of questions. Also, the AANA updated their links page with ton of information that is being updated constantly with all relevent material pertaining to the CRNA profession. You should check it out.

Hey drug rep,

I've never heard anything re the "5 year" ICU preference. I DO know that Kaiser wants people who will be successful in their program so they heavily weigh GPA in the sciences and BSN coursework. The Ass. director told me they are more interested in quality of ICU/crit care experience rather than quantity, they want people who can be flexible (many different rotations so many different personalities to deal with), they like to see volunteer work, research background, leadership experience. Most of all they are interested in you as a person...they want people who are passionate about becoming a CRNA. What I like about Kaiser is that when you meet with them during your "counseling" session they will not BS you. They will tell you what you need to do to increase your chances of gaining admission to their program and then it is up to you to do it. They will tell you that they get enough applicants to be selective so do what they recommend if you really want to go there. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

BTW congrats sharkbait! see you in the fall

mammoth,

Couldn't have put any better.

Thanks "mammothsnw" and "gaspasser10". Congratulations to you both as well!!!

To answer "drugreps" question. I agree with "mammothsnw", its quality of critical care exp vs quantity. I met ppl at my interview with 2-7 yrs exp. I personally have 5 yrs exp. But I know they are accepting ppl with a variety of exp lengths depending out what you have gained in those yrs and what you will bring to the make up of the class. Good luck to you!
