Just part-time?

What are the prospects of teaching online part-time as an educator to supplement my income? I would go back and get my MSN in Nursing Education, but would still like to keep my job at the current hospital I work at.

Would just an MSN be enough to teach courses online?

Are the job prospects decent or limited openings?

How much can you expect to make say....per class?

The facility I work at will pay for me to go back to school and get my master's. I figure I might as well take advantage of it, but not sure if this is the correct route to go.

I love my job now and this would be only in addition to my current job. Not looking for anything full time right now, but maybe down the road if I get burnt out in the clinical setting.

BTW, I have been a nurse for 4 years. 1.5 years in the ICU and the last 2.5 years in the OR.

Any info would be greatly appreciated :-)

    Usually, places that hire online educators require some sort of F2F teaching experience in addition to MSN. Definitely get your MSN, you can always be an OR educator!

    IMO, online job options for MSN only are non-existent. I finished my MSN last May and have been looking for online prospects since and have found next-to-nothing. Almost all of them require a PhD, and most of them require in-person classroom

    I teach parttime with my masters, but in classroom. There are online components to it, but only submitting papers and things.

    I work in the hospital 2 12s, and teach on one day. The income is a laugh, because as adjunct faculty I get about 2/3s of what I make at the bedside, per credit hour. Plus all the take home grading papers, etc. If I were doing it for the money, all I would have to do is pick up overtime at the hospital. But, I like teaching, its fun and has opened new doors, and differenct experiences. I've been a nurse for 30 years now.

    Virtual Vocations posts online nurse educator positions at times that require a MSN. I've seen some on there for BSN.
