Job!?

So I'm a new RN graduate(Aug 12') I did a peds practicum and loved it! When the time came for me to graduate and sit for the NCLEX the hospital went on a 3 month hiring freeze. I was guaranteed a position if I could " wait it out". The freeze was up in January 2013 and the director of the department contacted me and said the census was low on the floor so she could not open me a position but she would talk to another director to open me a position and I could work on that floor until Peds could find the need for a new nurse. Well I got a call on 1-31 for a medsurg interview. The next day the Peds director contacted me to say a nurse was leaving and she would request the new position on Monday 2-4. I went to the dept and did my "peer interview" so now I'm just WAITING for the position to post online so I can officially apply... This is taking forever and in the mean time I turned down a position at a LTC facility. Does this seem promising? I'm so worried its not going to happen or the nurse will decide she's not leaving... Anyone else had something similar happen???

It sounds pretty promising since the PEDS director contacted you directly...I don't have any experience with this in nursing specifically, but I have with other jobs and I can say if the person in charge contacts you directly to apply, it's normally a very good sign. I know waiting is so hard, but things like this take time. On the other hand, typically, once things get rolling, they roll fast so get ready! Good luck and please keep us posted!!

Ahh, no call still from HR. So STRESSFUL! I want to be on the march orientation. Last conversation was Monday when the job finally posted and I applied. I was told I'd probably get a call Wednesday and its Friday and never got a call... Sure hoping Monday brings better news:-)

Got my call from HR to come in Friday @ 930. Any idea how long it takes to run a background check?

Without any problems a day or two. My background check couldn't find evidence of my military experience :/ so I had to send in DD214's and copies of awards and what not.

Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)

Orientation starts 3-4-13 and my HR appt is 2-22-13. Do you think they have enough time to get my background check, driving history, & credit report so ill be ready for that orientation ?

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

When I got hired last year everything was sped up to make the process go very quickly before orientation, so I'm sure they could do the same for you!

Specializes in L&D, Nursery, and Post-Partum.

Yes, they make sure to schedule you so that they do have adequate time to complete your required pre-hire checks. As long as the computer systems they use to run everything are functioning correctly, you should be good to go! :D

No they don't and they didn't.
