Hey everyone ! I am a new licensed registered nurse as of February 2015. I graduated last year in May of 2014 an lost my job opportunity at the VA after failing nclex-rn within a month during my nursing orientation. After taking my time to prep an make sure I pass boards ,I am licensed now. It seem that the job search is extremely difficult. I have applied to every hospital in the city of Birmingham ,Alabama an at that various positions within each hospital. At first , I was to applying for various ICU an ER jobs because thats what kind of work I was doing an that's where I was receiving orientation, but it just seems impossible to get those opportunities from externally standpoint so I've applied in other areas. It also seem more realistic to start smaller than to jump back into the ICU when I've been away from patient care almost a year now. I'm still technically a new nurse that needs an orientation experience just like a new grad hired on right out of school would get even though I graduated last year. Do anyone have any advice or pointers on where I can find work in Birmingham ,Al? Or opportunities for new grads elsewhere nearby like Georgia , Florida ,etc.... I'm willing to relocate . I feel like I'm never going to find a job an it's frustrating. Im just a guy that's ready to get back to giving patient care an get my career started. I'm grateful for any help or suggestions!

Welcome to AN! Like you, many other new grad nurses are having difficulty finding that first job due to job market saturation. This is probably only compounded by the fact that it has been nearly a year since your graduation. While many nurses would like to start out in acute care (hospitals), the truth is that's not where the most need (and thus jobs) will be found. It may be in your best interests to expand not only into other locations but also into other types of facilities such as long term care. While not your preferred specialty, it will at least give you nursing experience.

I'm so sorry but this non-typo is driving me nuts. The word is and.
All others please carry on.
BTW Rose_Queen is right on. Expand your search and take what you can get.
