Job Hopping

Published

Specializes in ER.

Benefits:

1. It's the company I wanted to be with (friends love it that work for it)

2. I will keep my extra overtime that places me near 40 bucks an hour at a different job which I need to pay bills

3. Larger hospital system with more options of employment as an advance practice RN after graduating

4. Lower ratio

5. Self schedule with no call

6. I am really frustrated with administration after 7 months. Basically, I was told "**** you" in a nice way when I complained about them not asking if I would switch to working both Thanksgiving and Black Friday or even told about it. I was told to check the schedule when it first comes out and it's not a guarantee for self-scheduling. I am pretty flexible and I will work with others.

7. No call

8. Techs can actually help out more but with lower staff ratio that's no issue. (Dramatic difference in nursing assistant's roles with basically transporters in one job)

Cons:

1. Job hopping

2. Farther drive (at least another 15 minutes)

3. The new job will not require me to remain if they have no advance practice openings

I am a bit disillusioned with current job. We have no staff and it is bugging me. I guess I will be adding to the problem by leaving. I went through with a buddy the other day and figured out we have had 12 people quit from the afternoon and night shift since I started. However, the whole "it's not guaranteed" bit kind of irked me. I also dislike some of the current staff and I have broken down in tears over it once or twice. I love the agency staff but I dislike the current staff. I could also go over to my other prn job which they liked me enough but then no over time and they do not have self scheduling.

Not to mention they hired outside people for day shift and only when I started withdrawing my application from day shift did they freak out and offer it to me. I do have a day shift spot but I won't start for another four or five months. People at the other hospital are selling it as really good at the moment.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Is this new job something you could see yourself doing long term? It's not necessarily job hopping if so. Do what makes you happy. There's always a trade-off, but for the right job, the compromises are worth it.
