If you can do it somewhere else, trust me, do it. It's not pleasant.

That said, there is a catch. Generally, you can only be admitted after completing a different healthcare related trade. Even then, entrance is fairly competitive, and it is not guaranteed. It is not a self paced program, and all I have heard of are 1 year in length, starting the date you actually start the LPN program.

One year doesn't actually sound too bad.

I've been trying to find information on here because something about it makes me feel iffy, but then again, I don't trust anyone lol

Did you do the LVN program at Job Corps, or know someone who did?

I know that there are some old threads about Job Corps and I've read info. on their website and what-not. I was just wondering if some one could give me any specific information on how it works?
I've heard that it can take up to two years to complete, but has anyone finished the LVN/LPN program sooner? Is it self-paced? I'm sorry for all the questions but everything about it seems too good. Is it like going to school and you get homework or do you go to school and complete it all at your own pace?
Any info is appreciated.

I attended Job Corps YEARS ago. And it was the best thing I ever did for myself! They didn't have an LVN program at the time but they did have a CNA program. I was in for Clerical and Retail.

From what I can remember, it was a work at your own pace kind of program. I don't know if it's still that way or not. Either way, it's the BEST program you can find! You'll come out way ahead of everyone else, because they pay you! Which means, no student loans to pay back!

You CAN and SHOULD take advantage of all that JC has to offer! I received all of my certificates including my GED and Drivers Lic. Not to mention, they give you clothing allotments and a bi-weekly cash allowance for the basics (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc...) as well, as a savings type plan that you get all at once when you leave the program. I got $2,000. when I graduated!

JC was the best program! I was only 17 at the time but it gave me sooo much! I know the saying goes, "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is". But the program really does offer all that they say! NO LIES!

So, go and take FULL advantage!! But just a word of advice! Don't get involved in the social craziness of dorm life. That will only take you away from the reason you are there and may keep you from reaching your full potential. Focus on the real reason you are there and stick to it! You won't regret it!

I hope you make the right decision! You only have a short window of opportunity (It's for ages 17-21), and 21 comes and goes FAST!

HI Im doing my LVN at job corps and I had to take my CNA there first and now they transferred me to the lvn program it is wonderful!! One of the best things that ever happened to me!!! I love it

Dont listen to that person up there who said "its not pleasent"

Everything is free you do not pay for anything not a cent they pay you every two weeks 45 dollars and when you graduate you get 1,200!!! lunch dinner and breakfast is free! uniforms, books, trips, bus passes free!!! mediacl and dental care free!!

in CA its ages 16-26 go for it you wont regret it!!!

i currently atten Gary job corps in San Marcos Tx. it is not as bad as some people make it seem, you just have to be determined to get through it. my trade is cna, no it is not self paced anymore, they only allow you to test once a week unless you have permission from your plc coordinator to test more, and i do, so instead of 10 weeks i have been in cna for 23 day and will be done before my 30 day mark. after general course study i will have skills and clinicals for three weeks and then certify. i am applying to the lvn program at the Casadega job corps in New York but it is not the only one. All job Corps don't have them but i know for sure Hawaii, Virgina and Pensylvania does offer Lvn as an advanced trade. you have to be Cna certified to even send the application in. You have to have gotten a trade at a previous job corps and you have to be transferring from a job corps. Class is easy and i have a great Cna instructor. this is my second trade at Job corps and ive only been here 4 months. my first trade was self paced and it was MAIC. Cna trade is no longer self paced becaus eits really easy to complete and most students get done before they can actually graduate seeing as how you have to be here for a certain amount of days.

dorm life is livable. im the manager at my dorm and i have been just a student, so i understand both sides of the spectrum. they do have roll calls in the morning, afternoon and night. we do have curfew 8:00pm on mondays, 9:30 on tue-thur, and 11:00 friday and saturday, its also 9:30 on sundays. they expect you to clean, and clean good. we buff our floors everyweek and clean up everynight and morning even if its not messed up. but you get out of it what you put into it.

there is also a lot of recreational things to do on campus. our campus has a gym, pool hall, game room, art room, music room, and movie theatre.we also do stand up comedy and poetry in our Panther den(which is a cafe like store) i dont take advantage of any of it but most students actually enjoy it. i stay in the dorm to ensure that my girls and i are in a safe and clean environment.

STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. they will terminate you, if u fail two drug test you will go home(the first one they put you in TEAP which is a drug rehabilitation program). if you have too many negatives you will go home. if u are on the cdo report often you will go home. i can say they are strict but its for a reason. this is a great program and some students don't deserve to be here, so yeah they weave out the bad.

true... i want to go home sometimes but i know this is a change for me and something i will have to adapt to in order to get what i want out of life. know why you came or why you are going, set goals for yourself and don't stop until you succeed. if you are a good student like me, you can get far...even get an on campus job that actually pays you to work.
