IVs are something I'm good at, so the floor often asks for me to start their lines when they know I'm working. I've even had pts ask for me. Most facilities require that you be able to start at least 3 IVs successfully under observation before you can start them on your own. To be part of an actual IV team, which some hospitals have, you have to have the actual skill down pat before they will accept you.
