I'm a new grad nurse on a tele unit and want to compile a list of freqently used IVP meds and their push times. I haven't really pushed that many in 3 months, so I'm looking for help compiling a list of meds that I should push slowly. I plan to use our hospital protocols to determine how fast is safe. Can you help me come up with a list of meds to include on my quick reference list?
Morphine
Dilaudid
Protonix
Zofran
Lopressor
What else?

I usually dilute everything in 5-10 ml of ns and push over around 1-2 min, unless its something that i know i have to push over a specific amount of time.
but.... i looked up these meds in my drug book for actual recommendations and I found specific instructions/ answers to your questions.
i have the Davis' Drug Guide.
Good luck.
in addition...
i work on a tele floor too.
we also push plenty of
lasix
solumedrol
bumex
dextrose
diazapam
benadryl
famotidine
heparin
lorazepam
meperidine
reglan
phenergan ... to add to your list :)
Thank you!!! I actually had time today (after discharging 3 of my 4 pts) to go through our Med Admin Guidelines and make a quick list for myself. It's already coming in handy!
