Is an RNFA certification needed as a CRNP?

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in an acute care NP program and would like to get into a surgical specialty after I graduate. I have done some research, but am unable to find if a CRNP is required to have a RNFA certification if their duties will include assisting in the OR. If anyone is able to answer this question or able to point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

If you have 2 years of work experience as an RN in the OR/IR/Cath Lab, then you can complete the RNFA program prior to graduating as a CRNP. If you do not have 2 years of RN experience in one of those areas then you must complete your CRNP program and then apply to and complete the RNFA program. I am also in an ACNP program but I will be completing the RNFA program next summer since I will have worked in IR for greater than the 2 year requirement.
