Is this a good start to pre-reqs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok, I've been back and forth all day looking at your Comm Coll's webpage for summer and fall classes. I need eveyone's help!

Here is my plan for pre-reqs:

I plan on taking Chem, Soc 101 and Nutrition this summer and fall.

That would still leave me with A&P I/II and Microbiology before I start nursing next fall or so!

I would like to take the Chem class Summer II (6 wks long) or this fall. I've never taken Chem before and I don't want to fail. However, there is an UPSIDE: The teacher who is the easiest on campus will be teaching it Summer II and this fall....HEHEHEHE

I researched this guy ALL DAY! So, should I take it in the fall or summer II?

I will register for the Soc class during Summer II M&W from 6-9:30. I wish I could get another class in for SII but I wouldn't know what else to take.

A&P classes are full and I guess I will have to take them next spring and summer with Micro.

Any suggestions about what I'm thinking?

Sorry if I'm all over the place, it's humid and I am miserable and want to get off of this computer lol

Specializes in none yet!.

I have been trying to organize my pre-reqs too! It is a shame A&P I is full, as A&P I, II and Microbiology all have labs, so take more time, plus they are always quick to fill cos are pre-reqs to many. Could you fit micro in over the summer/fall so one lab class is out of the way?

Here is how I have split my classes (I don't have to do chemistry, as covered it in my BSc):

Fall:

A&P I

Microbiology

Princ. of sociology

Intro. to psychology

Spring:

A&P II

Statistics (luckily I placed into this course w/out needing pre-reqs)

Development through the lifespan

Maths for medication

Nutrition

I am doing the maths for medication (1 credit course) so I hopefully will not have problems for clinicals and nutrition so I can transfer credits (much cheaper at local cc than Case Western). My course load is around 14 credits per semester, but I have studied some psych. before and only need anatomy, not physiology (as was covered in my BSc), but no one offers just anatomy!

Hope that gives you some help!

If all you have are those classes I would first split up the Sociology or Nutrition to a semester when you take A&P 1 or 2... I am taking just physiology right now and I wish I had saved some other prereq classes like that to fill up my time since it seems like a waste going to college for a whole semester for just one class

Also I would look to get in A&P asap, I looked around at all the different community colleges to ensure that I got these classes done early... try to add them on the first day if at all possible:mnnnrsngrk:

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

The best advice I can give you is to NOT take chemistry in the summer. It is a difficult class especially if you've never taken it before. Taking it condensed is going to make it even harder. If the teacher you like is teaching it in the fall, you are better off taking it then.

At the CC I plan on attending for my prereqs, you have to take A&P I and II before you can take Micro. Is this not the case at other schools? Also, I've read some posts where people have mentioned taking A&P online. How does the lab portion of the class work doing it that way?

Specializes in HH, Med/surg- liver & kidney transplant, ortho, ++.

From what I heard, the community college I went to for my prereqs for nursing scool have an online a&p class. I guess the way it works is that quizzes are done at home (online) and midterms are done at the college. The lab is one day a week at the college. I haven't looked into it because I am done with all of my prereqs. The college is Clackamas Community College in Oregon.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will be taking Soc 101 Summer II, Nutrition and Chemistry in the Fall, AP I in the Spring (and possible just another filler course of my choosing since I have a BA alread) and then AP II for Summer I and Micro for Summer II....

That is my plan of attack, but we will see if I can change things by spring.

Is AP I & II and Micro that hard?

Specializes in SNU/SNF/MedSurg, SPCU Ortho/Neuro/Spine.
