how important is chemistry ?
I dont know what to do. I had planned on taking the Chem class this fall with Nutrition and API in the spring, then APII Summer I and Microbiology in Summer II 2009. I wouldn't start NS until Aug/Sept 2009. Any suggestions? I've never had Chem and I want to get it out of the way. My sister is a chem/physics freak...Im the biology freak/master. She is willing to help and taking it alone this summer would help me to concentrate on one class and one class only. Plus the professor who is teaching it has great ratings from all of his students on www.ratemyprofessors.com TELL ME WHAT TO DO lol

how important is chemistry ?
I know all of the programs that I am looking into require Chemistry. My question is this: I just spoke with a friend I've known for the past 8 years (we worked at my last employer together for 6 years-started on the same day!!) and she just graduated from the BSN2 program at my current POE. She advised me to take Chem Summer II of this year because EVERYTHING will not be broached in the 6 wk class. I know some people say not to take it during the summer because it's soooo condensed, but she makes a great point about not everything being able to be taught like in a regular 13-15 week course. She said the basic Chem class is fairly easy and not as intense at more advanced Chem classes. What would you all suggest? I've never taken Chem before and I am scared to death.

Nursing school and working full time
I would definitely look into a school who has a part time BSN/program. They are out there. And I know what you mean about not being able to talk to someone. I wanted to speak with someone from the school I am applying to and the only time I can meet them is at the Open House in two weeks. They don't schedule appts or take drop ins. *********** Anyway...good luck findind a school. I am in the same boat. I have a mortgage and I need to work fulltime. So I have to settle for doing my pre reqs over the next year and then had to search for a part time BSN program. Matter of fact, I'm still wrestling with the BSN or CC option. I dont know what to do.

Is this a good start to pre-reqs?
Thanks everyone for your input. I will be taking Soc 101 Summer II, Nutrition and Chemistry in the Fall, AP I in the Spring (and possible just another filler course of my choosing since I have a BA alread) and then AP II for Summer I and Micro for Summer II.... That is my plan of attack, but we will see if I can change things by spring. Is AP I & II and Micro that hard?

Is this a good start to pre-reqs?
Ok, I've been back and forth all day looking at your Comm Coll's webpage for summer and fall classes. I need eveyone's help! Here is my plan for pre-reqs: I plan on taking Chem, Soc 101 and Nutrition this summer and fall. That would still leave me with A&P I/II and Microbiology before I start nursing next fall or so! I would like to take the Chem class Summer II (6 wks long) or this fall. I've never taken Chem before and I don't want to fail. However, there is an UPSIDE: The teacher who is the easiest on campus will be teaching it Summer II and this fall....HEHEHEHE I researched this guy ALL DAY! So, should I take it in the fall or summer II? I will register for the Soc class during Summer II M&W from 6-9:30. I wish I could get another class in for SII but I wouldn't know what else to take. A&P classes are full and I guess I will have to take them next spring and summer with Micro. Any suggestions about what I'm thinking? Sorry if I'm all over the place, it's humid and I am miserable and want to get off of this computer lol

Nursing School Questions
I understand. Frankford is one of the schools I'm looking into, but will continue to research all of my options since I won't be able to attend until Fall 2009. Decisons, decisions, decisions. Two schools I am looking into I hear bad things about: Frankford and Holy Family. I applied to Holy Family but am now deciding if I really want to go there or not after reading things on here. Are there other nursing forums like this?

just to let you know..
OMG, you all have me scared to death to apply to the 3 diploma programs I'm interested in. I had all but decided to do the BSN at LaSalle or Holy Family (Im still trying to decide...uggghhh) or the diploma program at one of the hospitals in the area. After reading this, I just don't know what to do now. HELP!!!!!!! :smackingf

Nursing School Questions
Hiddencat, I would tend to disagree about Frankford. I've heard nothing but EXCELLENT reports about the nurses they turn out. Their NCLEX scores prove it. I work for a private Christian university on the main line and the nursing staff highly recommends Frankford for other students who cannot get into our program. This is the first time I've heard anything negative about Frankford students, but then again, EVERY nursing school churns out a few bad seeds here and there. You know what I mean? It's funny that the reputation of a few select, none committed and dedicated nurses ruins it for the rest of us who will come after them and who have gone before them to pave the road.

Wanna know what nursing school is like?
Thanks for sharing. It was really wonderful and funny. Now I'm nervous about starting my trek into nursing!!! Oh yeah, I kept hearing about process records (?) what are they?

Adn, Bsn Or Msn
You are in the same boat I'm in. I have my BA in Management of Information Systems, and I am thinking about applying to nursing schools. I had all but made my mind up to do the ADN (AAS) from a community college or a diploma program (I live in PA where they are plentiful!), but now I am conflicted about getting a BSN. We have some part time BSN's in the area (all require pre reqs except one which surprises me) and I am thinking about going this route. If I have to take the pre reqs, I won't be able to get into nursing school until next fall which would suck. I don't know which route to go. I really don't.

MC3 students
Oh, Hello there! Thank you for responding. I guess this forum doesn't get a lot of action. Anyway. I just applied to the Nursing program at MC3, online. I applied twice because I forgot to add one of the colleges I attended lol But now they have all of them. I will be requesting my transcripts this weekend. I owe Liberty almost $400 and I don't know why. So I will be calling them tomorrow to find out why. I can't believe I applied. WOW!!! One day, I will be Nurse Dolores LOL I now need to do my renewal form for FAFSA so I can take some pre-req classes. I might actually try and take some at work (I work for Eastern University---but I doubt these classes will be available for the summer. I will check) Ok...When are you returning to Montco? This summer, fall or next spring? And I hear ya. I know I will have to take the Bio 121 again. Which sucks. But I'm a Bio freak, so it won't matter to me. Chemistry is what is going to kill me. I have never in my life taken a Chem class and I'm sooooo afraid of taking one OH MY GOD. You kind of have the same idea as I do. Send me an email and we can discuss this further. [email protected] is my email address. I want to start this fall, but I will be ok if I can do all of my pre-reqs this summer and fall and then enter in the spring. As long as I get any and all pre reqs done, I dont care. Im going to the Information Session tomorrow night and I will schedule an appt to speak to someone. I think that is what will help me figure out my gameplan as well. What class are you starting tonight? I need help. HELP ME :chuckle
