Is it a good option?

Hello everyone, so heres the thing, my goal is to become an RN, i live in Miami FL and i went to Florida National College for the LPN program, i passed the 260-question exam but the interview i didnt get accepted. My plans are to get into the PCT program, that would be a good start to gain more experience in the medical field, then transfer my credits for the LPN program to become an RN then, that would be in a periiod of 2 years, i need some opinions and sugestions, if you could give me a hand i would really appreciate it.

P.S: Do Hospitals accept PCT? What do they do? because my goal is to study to become an RN and get a part-time job at a hospital to gain more experience

:D:dhi there!!!

is a pct a pt care tech?? if it is, i don't know if you need any college credits for that. it is the equivilent to a nursing assistant in my hospital. i have never heard of the school you wrote about. is it an accredited school?? i live in hollywood. i would suggest trying to get into miami dade or bcc. if that isn't an option, some of the girls i work with went through the lpn program at sheridan tech. when i went to miami dade, i remember miami lakes tech having an lpn program. maybe try those.

good luck in your pursuit of your rn.:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

I was in a similar situation-- I went to Medical Assitant school for a year, then started working as a PCT, then little by little I complete my pre-reqs in a year plus being on BCC's wait list, plus kept trying at MDC without success-- so it took me to get my RN, about 4 years.

So if you are just starting out now, I do not think that you might be able to finish on your goal time-- but that's OK.

If you want to become an LPN, there are TONS AND TONS of schools besides FNC that are way cheaper--- look at miami dade county public schools website to see where are the closest ones to your house--- and if you are not into a rush of getting into LPN-- then you can do a CNA course--- there is one that is highly recommended called "nursing unlimitted" in north miami, where you can get your CNA in 3 months.

then get a job at a hospital and start from there-- keep going to MDC or BCC and apply to nursing school as soon as you can and you will be on your way to RN.

All schools are tough-- but if you really want it in your :redbeathe you will be able to make it anywhere.

Hi there,

I was taking the LPN course in Miami Lakes ED Center, I am sad to say I did not finish because I got sick and dropped the program. It is very intense but if u enjoy it u can get through it..... I got my NA License and now I am goin to start taking a Phlebotomy and ekg course to help get employment in the hospitals. A PCT basically shares same responsibilities and they have the ekg and Phlebotomy experience as well.

I can tell u that Miami Lakes is and accredited institution and once u finish there program it will allow u to transition into Miami Dades Nursing Program, Before I signed up in Miami Lakes I went to see my advisor at MDC and she is the one who gave me this information that is why I chose to go to Miami Lakes ED.

One more thing hospitals have PCT positions. If u go to job search in the hospital systems u will come acroos what they refer to as PCA. Patient care associates, SAME THINGS AS PCT.....

Good Luck....
